ABOUT ME
Personal Narrative
Hello, my name is Xiyue (Katherine) Hu. I am currently a Georgetown University graduate student in a communication, culture, and technology (CCT) program. I grew up in Chongqing, a famous 4D city in China, which has a unique landform. This city has inspired me to look at things from different views and developed my interest in studying 3D forms. I was major in industrial design at Pratt Insitute in New York for my undergraduate study. I also took some classes in the jewelry design program. I want my designs to make people feel happy, find their best selves, and improve their lives. Four years of studying design, I had many opportunities to bring my ideas into reality, such as lighting design, makeup design, and toy design. My design focuses are furniture designs, product designs, and designs to solve problems.
NYC, as one of the fashionable cities in the world; many models, celebrities, stylists, and designers stay and visit this city. It is a great place to be inspired by people on the streets, having the opportunity to listen to worldwide music, experiencing different cultures and fashions, etc. Besides those, New York also showed me the importance of using social media platforms and communicating with people from different backgrounds, which made me think about what I want to learn later on. Personally, I believe it is essential to know how to promote my designs, manage those products, and study my users to design better products as a designer. This idea leads me to Georgetown University's CCT program. I am interested in exploring topics about well-being, social relationships, user experiences, animals, etc. I hope to improve my ability to communicate with individuals, learn about technologies, and manage products. At the same time, I would still keep doing design projects to learn and train my mind during the process of studying in CCT. I hope those new abilities could help me understand my products' customers, work with different individuals or companies, and develop my design style; in other words, become a better independent designer in the future.
